Here’s what you’ll be up to…
As a Speech Therapist within our Children’s Services team, you’ll play an important role in supporting children to achieve their communication goals and thrive in everyday life. Working collaboratively with families, educators and allied health professionals, you’ll assess, plan and deliver evidence-based therapy programs tailored to each child’s individual needs.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct speech, language and communication assessments
- Develop and implement individualised therapy plans and intervention strategies
- Work closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to support positive outcomes
- Maintain accurate documentation, reports and progress notes
- Provide guidance, education and support to families and educators
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment focused on continuous improvement and best practice
This is a temporary full-time maternity leave position commencing in August 2026 for a period of up to 12 months. The role works 35 hours per week, Monday to Saturday as required, with penalty rates applicable for Saturday work. There may be future ongoing opportunities available following the conculsion of this maternity leave contract.

We also work closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists including Speech Therapists, Behavioural Therapists and Occupational Therapists to support the diverse needs and development of children and families across our services.

What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children and families and enjoys working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment. You will bring:
- A family-centred and evidence-based approach to therapy
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology (Bachelor or Master's) recognised by Speech Pathology Australia
- Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
- Certified Practising status
- Experience administering formal and standardised assessments
- Experience developing and implementing evidence-based therapy programs
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Current Working with Children Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain
Desirable requirements
- Hanen Program accreditation or similar relevant certifications
- Medicare Provider Number or eligibility to obtain one
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training

This position has been identified as a Child-Related position under Child Protection laws in NSW. To be eligible to apply, you are required to provide Council with a valid Working with Children Check Number.

You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, in order to progress through the recruitment process.
